In
a comprehensive process called the Rite of Christian Initiation of
Adults (RCIA), St.
Mary Magdalen supports and encourages
the spiritual journeys for all.
The preparation process is an ongoing
five-step process within
parish life. It is designed to
welcome new members into the church and
at the same time lead every Catholic
parishioner to deeper belief and renewal
of her or his Christian faith.
The
five steps are:
-
Inquiry
or Pre-Catechumenate:
Scripture is introduced and
participants reflect on what the
teachings of Jesus Christ have to do
with their lives.
-
Catechumenate:
Accompanied by a sponsor, the
candidate makes an initial
commitment to Christ and to the
Church community.
-
Purification
& Enlightenment:
One begins final preparation for the
Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation
and Eucharist (as needed) by
participating in the Rite of
Election.
-
Sacraments
of Initiation: After a
time of reflection and prayer, those
who determine that this is the time
for them to be fully initiated into
our Roman Catholic Community are
brought to the Easter Vigil and
presented for initiation by their
sponsors. All the initiation
sacraments are celebrated with the
parish community present.
-
Mystagogia:
During the fifty days between Easter
and Pentecost, reflection on all
that has taken place
continues. This is the time to
become active in the parish
community.
Preparation
for the initiation process takes place
Sunday mornings following the 10:00am
mass in the Music Room at the Church
Hall.

program,
