Sacrament of Confirmation

Preparation Information and to Schedule: Faith Formation Office at 482-1219

Our young people who have been baptized and have celebrated the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist may be registered for the two year Confirmation Preparation Process beginning when they are high school freshmen. High school sophomores and juniors are also encouraged to register for this process.

The parents of Confirmation students will also be involved in the preparation process. Parents will attend the “Family Connections” evening meetings during the month of October. To facilitate communication throughout the entire preparation process, parents will also be present at Confirmation meetings at the beginning of each month.

In addition to participating in the Confirmation Process, students will participate in B.A.S.I.C. Youth Ministry activities. All of this is done to assure that everyone will grow together as faith-filled Catholic Christians who understand both a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and a commitment to continued participation in an active Christian Community.

Together, your parish and your family will prepare its young people to be faithful Catholic Christians.

Confirmation is administered at St. Mary Magdalen after the age of reason for those baptized as infants.  It is generally received in High School, sophomore year, after two years of preparation.

All Catholic Christians should receive the Sacrament of Confirmation to complete their communion with Christ and be marked by the perfection of the baptismal priesthood of the faithful in order to proclaim more boldly and publicly that Jesus Christ is Lord. Any baptized adult Catholic who has not yet been confirmed can participate in the Adult Confirmation Preparation Process (minimum one year of participation) and be confirmed in the Spring when the Bishop visits.

Class Information for Confirmation Candidates

Confirmation candidates will meet twice a month on Monday evenings according to the calendar which will be circulated at the beginning of the year.  The expectation is that students attend all events and participate in BASIC Youth Ministry activities on Sunday evenings.  Regular attendance at Mass, participation in the Confirmation rituals and retreats is required as well.

The formation sessions will begin promptly at 7:00pm and will dismiss at 8:30pm.  Sessions will take place in the Church Hall on Las Posas Rd.

Candidates will select an adult who is a confirmed active Catholic who attends Mass and receives the Eucharist regularly to journey with them as their mentor and Sponsor through the preparation process.

In addition to filling out registration materials and a permission/medical release form, candidates will be signing in for each event.  This not only tracks their attendance record but provides assurance of their safety.

It may be necessary for students who have not been enrolled in St. Mary Magdalen School or in religious education activities to be interviewed to determine their readiness to begin the Confirmation Preparation Process.  We recommend signing up at your earliest convenience.

Please contact the Faith Formation Office for more information.
