First class is Sunday October 13, 2019

Class is on Sunday from 3:30pm – 6:30pm. We will have our learning session from 3p-5p and we will end with going to 5:30 Mass as a class. Class does not end until 6:30.

If circumstances arise and the candidate has to miss a class:

Parent must send an email in advance of the missed class, stating the reason for the absence. The candidate will be given a take home assignment that must be turned in by the next class session. If more than three classes are missed, for any reason, a parent meeting will be held with the Confirmation Coordinator.

Candidates must attend a Year 1 Retreat – Saturday T.B.D.

This is a mandatory requirement. The Year 1 retreat is Saturday January 11, 2020 -9:00am through Sunday January 12th-9:00am the following day after 8:00am Mass.

This is an overnight retreat! More details will be handed out at a later date.

Candidate must attend a minimum of 4 B.A.S.I.C. nights.

The 1st B.A.S.I.C. night (Thursday Oct. 17th) is mandatory for all Year 1 Confirmation Candidates .

B.A.S.I.C is our High School Youth Group. It’s open to all high school students (Catholic or non-Catholic). It’s a place where we can grow in our faith in a social setting. It’s a place to hang out with old friends and make new ones and leave behind the stress of our daily lives. We encourage you to come every week!

Candidate must attend a minimum of 1 service project and write a 1 page reflection about their experience.

Service is more than a requirement of Confirmation class; it is a calling from Jesus to go out in the world to spread His love. We will provide at least 1 service project opportunity each month. Only (1) reflection paper is due even if you are a part of all of the service projects. Service projects must be completed with us here at St. Mary Magdalen. School service projects do not count. We encourage you to be a part of as many service projects as you can.

Candidate will be given a take home “Share Point” at the end of every class.

This “Share Point” is designed to keep the conversation going outside of the classroom setting and into the home and the daily lives of the candidates. It is meant to inspire the candidates and their families to always be mindful that we must continue to practice and live out our faith on a daily basis. It can range from a family conversation of the class lesson, a family scripture reading and discussion, to an activity such as “Introduce yourself and start a conversation with someone at school with whom you wouldn’t normally speak with. What surprised you about this interaction?”

Parents are required to participate in a minimum of one (1) Youth Ministry event.

These Candidates are working toward being a full member of our Catholic community. What better way to help inspire them than with our own examples of faith sharing and service. Involvement opportunities: Decorate your car and hand out candy at our Trunk-or-Treat, Help at our gift wrapping service fundraiser, be a driver/chaperone for Santa Barbara Youth Day, help out at any other service projects, etc. The success of our program is made possible through a combined effort of the Youth Minister, Leadership team, Clergy, Parish, Candidates and their families.
